Can a tarot reading help clarify intentions before spellwork?

One thing I’ve been exploring is whether a short tarot reading before spellwork can help clarify the intention behind the ritual. Instead of asking the cards to predict an outcome, the reading can reveal hidden expectations, doubts, or emotional patterns that may be influencing the work.

A simple approach is to draw three cards: the true intention, the main obstacle, and the energy to cultivate. When practising digitally, I sometimes use this free tarot reading and write down my first impression before looking at the interpretation. For transparency, I’m connected with the project and am sharing it as an example of the tool I use.

I think the important distinction is that the cards do not replace preparation or personal responsibility. They can function as a mirror, helping us decide whether the intention is focused enough—or whether the ritual should wait until we have more clarity.

Do you use tarot, journaling, meditation, or another method to check your intention before beginning spellwork?
